What is required to run No Horizons? (minimum, optimal, best settings)

TBA - we will let you know before the start of the beta.

I only have a dial-up model, can I still play?

You certainly can. No Horizons doesn't require continual updates from the server for smooth game play. Only when you attempt an action or when another culture performs an action that impacts your culture will your modem come into play. Naturally the update time will be longer than a player on broadband but any delay experienced should be minimal and not impact overall gameplay.

Will a slower modem put me at a disadvantage?

Not necessarily. For general gameplay the bandwidth available to your modem not impact your ability to play a good game. Naturally when you log in and download any updates to your culture since you last played, it will take longer. This won't impact your game experience however.

Can I log on from different computers?

You certainly can. However, information that relates to your culture is stored locally on your computer. This is done to maximise the performance of your gaming experience. If you change computers you will either need to migrate your local information to the new computer or download it from the server (will happen automatically if the local information is not found).

What operating systems are supported?

Windows XP and Windows Vista (32bit and 64bit architectures), Apple OSX 10.3 onwards (PPC and Intel 32bit and 64bit architectures) and Linux. The Linux distribution list has not been finalised but we are looking to support about eight popular distributions. Once again 32bit and 64bit architectures will be supported.

What graphics cards are supported?

Lots. No Horizons uses a scalable graphics architecture that will tailor the visual experience to best suit your hardware configuration. This means that you will be able to play on non-shader graphics cards circa ATi Radion 9200 right up to the latest and greatest nVidia 8800 GTX cards. We support both ATi and nVidia cards with other cards being supported if they meet our minimum OpenGL requirements.

Will my geographic distance from the server impact game-play?

Only in such a way that the information flowing from your computer to the server will need to undergo more router-hops which should have negligble impact on performance. If you read the earlier questions on slow modem speed you will see that any impact to performance that does occur will not impact your gaming experience.

Where are the servers located?

We haven't finalised our hosting as yet. But the server locations will probably be based locally to ICNH Games initially and then moving out to specific geographic locations to be serve the gamers in that area. However, as mentioned previously, server location will have minimal impact on gameplay, if any.

What if my computer crashes during the game?

That's ok, we have devised a set of rules for network communication that ensures that regardless of when the server or client application crashes the game will be left in a consistent state. This means that at a worst case scenarion you may need to redo your last action and at a best case you wont have to do anything.

How do I connect?

Once the game is ready to play and you have created your online account (via this website). You can download the No Horizons client for your computer, start it up, enter your account details and you will be playing.
