(Previous Topic: overview )

No Horizons offers strategy gamers a new level of flexibility and customisation over previous strategy games. These customisations allow you to create a culture that suits your playing style. The customisations extend to all aspects of a No Horizons game and a number of these will be discussed below with examples where relevant.

Your culture and your flag  When you start a new culture in No Horizons you immediately start shaping your culture to suit you and your playing style. The first thing you get to do is name your culture, its people and select a flag to represent them. There are some rules around names, abiding by the rules gives everyone the best playing experience. Your flag also has some rules but is a little more flexible. You start off by selecting a flag style and then selecting up to three colours that will make your flag unique across the server.

Species  Species customisation is the next part of defining your own culture's people. Species customisations combine both aesthetic and functional features and it is these features that will start to change the way the game is played for you... at least initially. Here's a sample of the things you can customise for your species.

Torso, Body Shape, Wings and Head are all aesthetic choices for the player. How cool can you make your species look?

Habitat  Where does your species live? On the ground, in the seas, underground or does it take to the skies?

Mind Type  Is your Culture psychic? Is it one huge Hive Mind, devoid of individuality?

Life Expectancy  How long does your species live? The longer they do, the more they can accomplish!

Reproduction Rate  How fast does your species reproduce? As fast as humans? Slower? Faster?

Terrain Preferences & Intolerances  What type of environment best suits your species? Living there will have certain advantages, but intolerant terrains will be extremely hazardous for your people.

Size  How big is the average person of your species. Having a bigger species will have hidden benefits (and problems!)

Blood Type  Are you warm-blooded, cold-blooded or some weird thing with no blood at all? This will affect how easy it is for your Culture to adapt to changes in temperature.

Diet  What do your people eat? Are they peaceful herbivores, violent carnivores, voracious omnivores or do they simple drink in the sun's rays for sustenance (an option not recommended for subterranean Cultures).

Intelligence  How smart is the average population of your species? While ignorance is bliss, the higher intelligence may give your people the jump on their neighbours in a technology race!
